About Golden Koi
Golden Koi (金鲤, also written 黄金锦鲤) is a Chinese astrology website for people who don't read Chinese. Enter your name and birth date and you get a free Chinese profile: a real Chinese name with the meaning of each character, your BaZi Day Master element, your Chinese zodiac sign and the main star in your Zi Wei Dou Shu Life Palace. Deeper personal readings are optional and paid. The site runs in English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese and Chinese.
How the charts are calculated
Every chart is calculated, not guessed. Zodiac years follow the Chinese lunar calendar, so the year changes at Lunar New Year, and we list the exact dates for every year from 1930. BaZi (Four Pillars) uses the 24 solar terms: the year pillar starts at Lichun, around February 4, and your Day Master is the Heavenly Stem of your day pillar. Calendar maths comes from the open-source lunar-javascript library. Zi Wei Dou Shu charts are built with the open-source iztro engine: 14 major stars placed across 12 palaces, using true solar time when you give a birth city. Compatibility scores come from the traditional Earthly Branch relations: Six Harmony, Three Harmony, Clash, Punishment, Harm and Break. Pinyin for Chinese names is generated from the characters themselves.
How the words are written
The numbers come first; the words follow them. Readings are written with the help of AI language models working from your calculated chart, under a house style guide: plain words, no fatalism, and no promises about health or money. Reference pages, such as the zodiac years and the 14 stars, are written once and checked against the classical meanings. Personal readings are written for each chart, so they can still contain mistakes. They are for reflection and cultural interest, not medical, legal or financial advice.
